The Headwaters at the Comal Receives Generous Donation to Support Conservation Mission

The Headwaters at the Comal, New Braunfels Utilities’ (NBU) conservation legacy project, received a generous $25,000 donation to support its vision to become a premier education center. Since its inception, The Headwaters at the Comal set out to inspire those who work, live, and enjoy the Hill Country areas of Texas, to institute conservation measures that protect our vital natural resources and quality of life. The Headwaters at the Comal is honored that GBMC Holdings, LLC, chose its non-profit organization for this charitable donation.

Attaining its name from being uniquely situated on 16 acres of property adjacent to the headwaters of Comal River, the Headwaters at the Comal is actively teaching people of all ages the connection of the headwaters to ground water, wetlands, and surface water flows, as well as its role in the water shed environment.

“As residents of New Braunfels, we enjoy the beauty of the Hill Country; however, we have experienced the loss of open space as the I-35 Corridor continues to grow,” said Nancy Pappas, managing director of the Headwaters at the Comal. “It is important for each of us to do our part, and to be aware of the impacts we have on our local environments – so that we can preserve them. We are grateful to Max Caruana, and Yaupon Lofts, for their generous gift and their commitment to conservation through smart development practices.”

GBMC’s commitment to conservation is highlighted through its work to plant native species, sourced locally, to support local birds, pollinators and wildlife, and installing low water usage drip irrigation and mulch to minimize landscape water usage.
